How It Works

Aviostat makes it easy to log your flights, organize trips, and explore detailed statistics about your air travel. Here's how it works, step by step.

1. Create Your Free Account

Sign up with your email address — no credit card required. Once you verify your email, you're ready to start logging flights. Your data is private by default and belongs to you.

2. Start a Trip

Every flight belongs to a trip. When you add your first flight, a trip is automatically created for you. You can name your trips (e.g., "Barcelona Weekend 2026" or "Asia Business Q3") and add optional details like purpose, accommodation, and tags.

Trips help you organize multi-leg journeys — a round trip with a layover, a multi-city vacation, or a conference tour with several stops.

3. Add Your Flights

For each flight, enter:

  • Departure airport — search by IATA code (e.g., "ARN"), city name, or airport name
  • Arrival airport — same instant search with 9,000+ airports worldwide
  • Departure date & time — local time as shown on your boarding pass
  • Arrival date & time — local time at your destination

Optional fields include airline, flight number, aircraft type, seat, class, and booking reference. Add as much or as little detail as you like.

4. Smart Airport Search

Our airport database covers over 9,000 airports globally, sourced from the open OurAirports dataset. Start typing and get instant suggestions — search by IATA code, ICAO code, airport name, or city. Major airports appear first for quick selection.

5. Automatic Calculations

Once you've added a flight, Aviostat automatically calculates:

  • Distance — Great-circle distance between airports (Haversine formula)
  • Duration — Accurate flight time using timezone-aware calculations (handles DST, international date line, and overnight flights correctly)
  • Countries & continents — Tracked from your departure and arrival airports

All times are entered as local times (matching your boarding pass) — Aviostat handles the timezone math behind the scenes using IANA timezone data for each airport.

6. Your Personal Dashboard

Your dashboard gives you a bird's-eye view of your flying career:

  • Total flights and total distance flown
  • Total time spent in the air
  • Countries and continents visited
  • Most-visited airports and routes
  • Flight history timeline

7. Interactive Route Map

See all your routes plotted on an interactive world map powered by OpenStreetMap. Great-circle arcs connect your airports, giving you a beautiful visualization of where you've traveled.

8. Share Your Stats

Want to show off your travel stats? Generate a shareable link to a public version of your dashboard. You control when it's active and can revoke it at any time from your profile settings.

9. Your Data, Your Control

Aviostat is built with privacy in mind:

  • No tracking pixels or third-party analytics
  • All connections encrypted via HTTPS
  • You can edit or delete any flight or trip at any time
  • You can delete your entire account and all data permanently
